How many CLE hours are required?

24 hours every 3 years - including at least 4 required hours of Legal Ethics. Also, if you are admitted to the notary practice you must complete 6 hours in notary law credits.

What are my CLE compliance and reporting requirements?

Reporting Cycle: 3 years
Compliance Deadline: The last day of the month prior to the attorney's birthday month. For example, if the birthday of an attorney is on April 9, his compliance deadline is on March 31.
Reporting Deadline: The last day of the month prior to the attorney's birthday month.

Is there a special requirement for newly admitted attorneys?

No. Newly admitted attorneys are granted an exoneration of 3 years following the date in which they took their oath and were admitted to the practice in Puerto Rico.

Can I carry hours forward to the next year?

Yes, attorneys can carry over up to 24 excess CLE hours into the next reporting cycle.

Does Attorney Credits verify my completion?

Yes, under the Puerto Rico CLE Requirements we must monitor your completion of the course. For online streaming video courses you must click on randomly inserted pop ups to confirm that you are viewing the video. For downloadable courses we have embedded numeric codes in the courses. You must write these numbers down and then enter them on our website after you complete the course to obtain your course certificate. Please note that the date you enter the codes and get the certificate is the date that will be printed on the certificate.

Does Attorney Credits report my CLE hours to the state bar?

Yes, Attorney Credits does report your completed courses to the Puerto Rico Supreme Court Continuing Legal Education Program. Our automated attendance reports run on the 1st and 15th of each month and are emailed and mailed to Puerto Rico normally within two business days of the report running.

How do I report the completion of my CLE requirement at the end of my compliance period?

You must fill out and return a compliance report at the end of each two year compliance cycle. The compliance report must be returned within 30 days after the end of your compliance period.
