The Maryland CLE subcommittee has voted to recommend that the Commission on Professionalism support a mandatory CLE requirement for attorneys admitted to the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA). Under the proposed CLE plan, active attorneys in Maryland would be required to complete 10 MD CLE credit hours of mandatory continuing legal education (CLE) each annual compliance period, unless an exemption applied. As part of the annual 10 credit hour MD CLE requirement, Maryland attorneys would have to complete 2 credit hours in professionalism. Under the proposed mandatory CLE rules, Maryland attorneys will be allowed to complete all of their Maryland CLE requirements through online MD CLE courses.
