How do I report the completion of my CLE requirement at the end of my compliance period?

Iowa attorneys must self-report completion of their CLE. Each attorney must make a written report to the Iowa CLE Commission regarding completion of legal education during the preceding calendar year. Each annual report must provide the Commission with satisfactory proof that the attorney has met the requirements.

With Attorney Credits' CLE website and on-demand CLE programming, you can complete your Iowa CLE courses at your own pace from desktop and laptop computers, tablets and smartphones. Iowa attorneys may complete IA CLE courses in the following pre-approved CLE media formats: streaming video, MP3 and Video Download. Attorney Credits' Iowa online CLE classes have all been pre-approved by the Iowa CLE Commission so you never have to worry about your CLE credit being accepted. Iowa attorneys may earn 6 CLE credit hours from Attorney Credits as part of the 15 unit CLE Iowa requirement, including three required hours of legal ethics.

Iowa attorneys and judges must complete a minimum of 15 IA CLE credit hours each year. The deadline to complete IA CLE credits is December 31 and the deadline to report IA CLE compliance is March 1. The minimum number of IA CLE hours completed each year must include a minimum of 3 hours every 2 years of CLE devoted exclusively to legal ethics. Legal ethics CLE courses in Iowa may include instruction specifically designed for lawyers regarding substance abuse and mental health issues. In October 2009, the Iowa Supreme Court adopted a requirement that all lawyers newly admitted to the Bar by examination must attend a basic skills course focused on Iowa law.
