What is the requirement for newly admitted attorneys?

The MCLE requirement is waived for the calendar year that an attorney is admitted to the Bar. Newly admitted attorneys must complete the Hawaii Professionalism Course by December 31 of the first full year of being admitted to the Hawaii State Bar Association.

Does Attorney Credits offer courses for newly admitted attorneys?

No. This program is only offered by the Hawaii State Bar Association.

Can I carry hours forward to the next year?

Yes, up to 3 credit hours can be carried over to the next compliance period. To be carried forward, the MCLE credit hours must have been earned during the calendar year immediately preceding the current reporting period.

Does Attorney Credits verify my completion?

Yes, under the Hawaii MCLE Requirements we must monitor your course attendance and completion. For online streaming video courses you must click on randomly inserted pop ups during the video to confirm that you are viewing the course. For downloadable MCLE courses we have embedded numeric codes in the courses. You must write these number codes down and then enter them on our website after you complete the course to obtain your course certificate. Please note that the date you enter the codes and get the certificate is the date that will be printed on the certificate.

Does Attorney Credits report my MCLE hours completed to the Hawaii State Bar Association?

Yes, Attorney Credits does report your completed courses to the Hawaii State Bar Association. We will report your course attendance within 30 days of course completion. We report on the 1st and 15th of every month. However, Hawaii is still considered a self-reporting state and Hawaii attorneys should maintain records of approved CLE for three reporting periods. In addition, we also maintain a record of all your completed courses and you can access your certificates of completion at anytime from our website.

How do I report the completion of my MCLE requirement at the end of my compliance period?

Each active Hawaii attorney must certify on their annual registration form that they are compliant with the Hawaii MCLE requirement. You must also maintain CLE certification records for the 3 most recent MCLE reporting periods.

All of Attorney Credits' CLE courses have been approved for CLE credit by the Hawaii State Bar Association (HSBA). Lawyers in Hawaii may satisfy all 3 HI CLE credit hours through online CLE courses offered by Attorney Credits, including the required hour of legal ethics (required every three years).

Each active member of the Hawaii State Bar Association (HSBA) must complete 3 hours of approved Hawaii CLE each annual compliance period. In addition, Hawaii attorneys must also complete 1 credit hour in the area of legal ethics every 3 years. Since Hawaii is a self-reporting CLE state, each active member of the HSBA must certify on their annual registration form whether the member is in compliance with the HI MCLE requirement by reporting the number of approved CLE hours completed in the previous year, including the specific number of hours of ethics or professional responsibility education. The HI MCLE Rules state that you must maintain your CLE certification records for the three most recent reporting periods.
