What is the requirement for newly admitted attorneys?

Each newly admitted attorney must complete a new-lawyer program approved by the Mississippi Commission on Continuing Legal Education. This program consists of 12 hours of CLE, including 6 hours of basic skills training and 6 hours of ethics/professionalism.

No. Attorney Credits does not offer courses for newly admitted attorneys.

Can I carry hours forward to the next year?

Yes, up to 12 credit hours may be carried forward. Carry over hours must be reported in the year they are completed and must be designated as carry forward hours when you report your CLE compliance. Ethics hours may only be carried over as general credits.

Does Attorney Credits verify my completion?

Yes, under the Mississippi CLE Requirements we must monitor your course attendance and completion. For online streaming video courses you must click on randomly inserted pop ups during the video to confirm that you are viewing the course. For downloadable CLE courses we have embedded numeric codes in the courses. You must write these number codes down and then enter them on our website after you complete the course to obtain your course certificate. Please note that the date you enter the codes and get the certificate is the date that will be printed on the certificate.

Does Attorney Credits report my CLE hours to the Mississippi Commission on Continuing Legal Education?

No. Attorney Credits does not report your completed courses to the Mississippi Commission on Continuing Legal Education. Mississippi attorneys are required to self-report the completion of their required CLE hours in the CLE Annual Report Statement. We do maintain a record of all your completed courses and you can access your certificates of completion at anytime from our website.

How do I report the completion of my CLE requirement at the end of my compliance period?

The CLE Annual Report Statement will be mailed to you in June. The Annual Report will list all the CLE hours that you have reported to the Mississippi Commission on Continuing Legal Education. Any additional CLE courses that you completed may also be added to this form. Each Mississippi attorney must submit the Annual Report to the Mississippi Commission on Continuing Legal Education by August 15.

Mississippi attorneys are required to attend at least 12 hours of approved CLE each annual Mississippi CLE compliance period. As part of the annual 12 hour MS CLE requirement, Mississippi attorneys are required to complete at least 1 required hour of legal ethics, professional responsibility, professionalism, malpractice prevention, substance abuse or mental health each compliance period. This is known as the ethics/professionalism hour. The deadline to complete and all Mississippi CLE courses is July 31 and the Mississippi CLE reporting deadline is August 15. Mississippi attorneys may claim up to 6 hours of CLE credit through the use of satellite-transmitted or electronically recorded CLE courses. Mississippi CLE courses offered by satellite-transmittal, electronic reproduction, telephone or online programs must be approved by the MS CLE Commission and must comply with the MS CLE Regulations. All of Attorney Credits' Mississippi CLE courses have been pre-approved for MS CLE credit by the MS CLE Commission and comply with the MS MCLE Regulations.
