How many MCLE hours are required?

Twelve credit hours every year - including 1 hour of legal ethics and 1 hour of professionalism.

What are my MCLE compliance and reporting requirements?

Is there a special requirement for newly admitted attorneys?

Yes. Newly admitted Georgia attorneys must complete the State Bar of Georgia Transition Into Law Practice Program. Certain exemptions to this requirement apply, please check with the State Bar of Georgia for details on the exemptions.

Does Attorney Credits offer courses for newly admitted attorneys?

No. This program is only offered by the State Bar of Georgia.

Can I carry hours forward to the next year?

Yes, credit hours may be carried over to the next compliance period.

Regular MCLE hours - 12 regular MCLE hours can be carried over to the next year.
In-House MCLE hours - only 6 hours can be carried over to the next year.
Ethics hours - only 2 hours can be carried over to the next year.
Professionalism hours - only 2 hours can be carried over to the next year.
Trial hours - only 3 hours can be carried over to the next year.

Does Attorney Credits verify my completion?

No. Georgia attorneys monitor their own progress and verify their own completion once the course has been completed.

Does Attorney Credits report my MCLE hours to the State Bar of Georgia?

Yes, Attorney Credits does report your completed courses to the State Bar of Georgia Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency. Our automated attendance reports run weekly on Thursday. We report through the Georgia website normally within two business days of the report running. In addition, we also maintain a record of all your completed courses and you can access your certificates of completion at anytime from our website.

How do I report the completion of my MCLE requirement at the end of my compliance period?

The State Bar of Georgia Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency mails all Georgia attorneys an Annual Report each year. If your Georgia MCLE hours are not complete or you owe fees, you must sign and return the Annual Report to the State Bar of Georgia Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency by January 31. If your Georgia MCLE hours are complete and you do not owe fees, then you do NOT need to return the Annual Report. In either case, Georgia attorneys are responsible for verifying the information contained in the Annual Report and correcting any mistakes.
