Experienced attorneys may earn all 24 hours of CLE credits for New York from Attorney Credits, including all 4 Legal Ethics credits and 1 hour of Diversity credit. Experienced attorneys must complete a total of 24 CLE credit hours during each biennial reporting cycle. At least 4 of these credit hours must be in the Ethics and Professionalism category, while the remaining credit hours may be in any category of credit. Experienced attorneys may earn CLE credits for New York by attending CLE courses offered in nontraditional formats such as audiotapes, video conferences, online, etc., as long as the New York CLE Board has accredited the provider to offer the course in the particular format. New York attorneys must report that they are CLE compliant on their biennial registration form and must retain proof of compliance for a minimum of four years. Accordingly, Attorney Credits issues a NY CLE Certificate of Completion for all New York CLE courses. Newly admitted attorneys cannot get credit for self-study courses during their first two years of admittance to the Bar without prior approval from the NY CLE Board and must satisfy special rules outlined in the New York MCLE Rules and Guidelines.
