How many CLE hours are required?

Twenty-four credit hours every 2 years - including 3 required hours of legal ethics and 2 hours of bias and diversity.

How do Attorney Credits' CLE courses qualify for credit in New Jersey?

All of our online and downloadable on-demand CLE courses have been approved for CLE credit by the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board on Continuing Legal Education.

How many CLE hours can I take through Attorney Credits?

If you are a New Jersey resident you can only take 12 of the 24 credits online with Attorney Credits. Certain non-resident attorneys or attorneys that qualify for the medical exception may complete all required 24 credit hours by completing online on-demand CLE programming. What is the non-resident CLE exception?

If you qualify for this exception you may satisfy all 24 required NJ CLE credit hours through online CLE courses. To qualify you must:
(1) Reside in
(2) Work in
(3) And be licensed in EITHER a mandatory CLE state that allows for 100% of the CLE requirement to be taken through online CLE courses OR a state with no mandatory CLE requirement.

What is the medical CLE exception?

New Jersey attorneys that have a serious medical condition may apply for an exception to complete all 24 required CLE credit hours through online CLE courses. A licensed physician must certify to the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board on Continuing Legal Education that the attorney is unable to attend live CLE courses.

What are the compliance groups?

Compliance Group 1: Attorneys with birthdays between January 1 - June 30 must complete their required CLE in ODD numbered years by December 31 and report compliance in the next year's attorney registration process.

Compliance Group 2: Attorneys with birthdays between July 1 - December 31 must complete their required CLE n EVEN numbered years by December 31 and report compliance in the next year's attorney registration process.

Do newly admitted attorneys have any special requirements?

Yes. Within a newly admitted lawyer's first two year compliance period, within the general 24 credit CLE requirement, a newly admitted New Jersey attorneys must take 16 credit hours in any 6 of the following 12subject areas - NJ administrative law, NJ labor and employment law, NJ basic estate administration, NJ basic estate planning, NJ civil or criminal trial preparation, NJ family law practice, NJ real estate closing procedures, NJ trust and business accounting, NJ landlord/tenant practice, NJ municipal court practice, NJ worker's compensation law, and NJ law office management. One of these credit hours must be in New Jersey attorney trust & business accounting fundamentals. Attorney Credits does not offer courses for newly admitted New Jersey attorneys.

Does Attorney Credits offer courses for newly admitted attorneys in New Jersey?

No. Attorney Credits does not offer courses for newly admitted attorneys in New Jersey.

Can I carry hours forward to the next year?

Yes, up to 12 credit hours may be carried over to the next compliance period.

Does Attorney Credits verify my completion?

Yes, under the New Jersey CLE Requirements we must monitor your completion of the course. For online streaming video courses you must click on randomly inserted pop ups to confirm that you are viewing the video. For downloadable courses we have embedded numeric codes in the courses. You must write these numbers down and then enter them on our website after you complete the course to obtain your course certificate. Please note that the date you enter the codes and get the certificate is the date that will be printed on the certificate.

Does Attorney Credits report my CLE hours to the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board on Continuing Legal Education?

No. Attorney Credits does not report your completed courses to the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board on Continuing Legal Education. We do maintain a record of all your completed courses and you can access your certificates of completion at anytime from our website.

How do I report the completion of my CLE requirement at the end of my compliance period?

You must report your compliance through the Court's website at: https://www.njcourts.gov/attorneys/cams.html.
