What can your criminal clients expect when they have been convicted of a crime and sentenced to jail or prison? Tell them to find the oldest, most drab & depressing, run down municipal building in your city and hang out there for the day... then imagine it was filled with murderers, dangerous gang members and violent criminals.
Yes, Brian, Ashleigh and Zac were locked up for 60 days. But probably unlike most of your criminal clients — they actually did NOT commit a crime. They were planted in jail as part of A&E’s docuseries “60 Days In” to root out gangs, drug dealing and corruption from the inside. The trio of undercover jail birds will provide first-hand insight on: pre-incarceration, intake, jail vs. prison, cell/pod assignments, adaptation, personal wellness, prisoner rights and release. Also addressed: jail food, arrival, the first 12 hours in, gambling, gangs & segregation, 4th Amendment rights, sexual targeting, finding purpose and hope. This course is an excellent resource for criminal attorneys looking to counsel criminal clients — or parents looking to scare the crap out of their kids.
Attorney Brian T. Mayer has been licensed and practicing law in California since 2005. Ashleigh Baker counsels criminal clients and works in drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Zac Baker is currently pursuing a career as a law enforcement office.

Malibu murder-for-hire, illicit payments, hidden assets in the Cayman Islands, collusion & extortion… Las Vegas mobsters — or just another Tuesday for an amateur sports agents?
To say that sports agency is as hyper-competitive as Michael Jordan during a game of H-O-R-S-E… is an understatement. From free groceries to stacks of cash & flashy sports cars — sports lore is chock-full of tales of agents breaking laws and behaving badly. Applying these stories, lawyers can show clients concrete examples of the penalties for crossing the ethical and fiduciary bright-line rules in pursuit of that BIG commission. In addition to handling the art of contract negotiations, agents must also navigate the many landmines associated with endorsement contracts, with California and Florida leading the push for amateur athletes to be compensated for their name, likeness and image — especially when used in lucrative sports video games.

Have any of your cases involved over 2 million documents? Have you ever holed yourself up in a hotel room for three days eating room service meals sorting through hundreds of documents spread out on the floor trying to visualize your trial presentation…only to whittle it down to the five most important PDFs and emails that you plan to hammer in front of the jury.
When we think of a case with thousands (or possibly millions) of documents, many of us think of one word: B-O-R-I-N-G. A master of his craft, defense attorney Brian Bieber will show you how to make your documents come to life to tell your client’s story to the jury. Brian will discuss starting with the end in mind, mining your persuasive documents, presenting the documents to the jury, getting the documents into evidence, using demonstrative aids in the opening statement and closing with the jury instructions. Brian will also address document selection, notes from the “boss,” taking constructive criticism, using power point presentations, utilizing litigation support staff, displaying highlighted docs, stipulations and knowing your judge.
Brian H. Bieber is a shareholder with the Miami law firm of GrayRobinson, P.A. He is engaged in criminal and civil white collar defense litigation (both high profile and extremely confidential) for corporate executives, prominent clients, ordinary citizens, as well as small, midsized and major multimillion-dollar businesses.

Have you ever delivered such good news to a client — that they literally fell out of their chair?? That’s what happened when Sam Brotman told his client that her business would qualify for a $300,000 Employee Retention Credit under the CARES Act.
Another small business owner broke into tears when Sam got her a $90,000 credit for her small automotive repair shop. Many business owners don’t know about the ERC or they’ve received bad professional advice and been told they don’t qualify because they have no significant drop in revenues. Sam will provide a comprehensive look at eligibility rules for the ERC, a full (or partial) suspension of operations, the 2020 & 2021 gross receipts calculations & elections and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021’s expansion of the ERC to recovery start-up businesses. Sam will also cover the interaction of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) & the ERC, partial credits, the operation of a trade/business, amended return matters, documenting via Opinion Letters, the gross receipts test, the safe harbor and establishing a reasonable defensible position.
Samuel D. Brotman is the founder of Brotman Law. His practice primarily centers on all aspects of tax litigation and criminal & civil tax controversies. Although a strong proponent of early stage tax resolution, Sam's practice is uniquely tailored to assist clients in all phases of their tax controversy from administrative resolution of the lawsuit.
