Attorneys must complete 30 Illinois CLE credits every two years as part of the Illinois Continuing Legal Education requirement, including 6 credit hours of Professional Responsibility. Professional Responsibility MCLE (PMCLE) must be in the areas of professionalism, diversity, mental illness and addiction, civility or legal ethics. The Illinois Continuing Legal Education compliance deadline is June 30 and the reporting deadline is July 31. If your last name starts with A-M, your two-year compliance period begins July 1 of even numbered years. If your last name starts with A-M, your two-year compliance period begins July 1 of odd numbered years. All Illinois attorneys are required to report compliance, non-compliance or exemptions at the end of the two-year reporting period. The Illinois MCLE Board will mail a Certification Form to each attorney at the preferred mailing address on file with the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC). The Certification Form must be completed and returned to the MCLE Director ("MCLE certification"), OR you may also report online. Pursuant to MCLE Rule 796(f)(1) of the Supreme Court of Illinois, Illinois attorneys are responsible for their own record keeping. The Illinois MCLE Board will only request attorneys' certificates of attendance in the event that the attorney is audited. Neither CLE Providers nor attorneys submit certificates of attendance to the Illinois MCLE Board unless there is an audit. Different rules apply to newly admitted attorneys subject to the Basic Skills requirement.
